Geoff Nelder

Geoff was born in Hannover, Germany and he was only just starting to enjoy himself at kindergarten  when his parents dragged him unwillingly to Britain. So he’s an immigrant, not that you’d notice. His first serious published writing was a series of jokes from when he was co-editor of Sheffield University rag mag. Geoff had to modify his waywardness when he became a 1970s teacher in Yorkshire. His student vacation work on farms and his anti-fox hunting demos led to him becoming a vegan fifty years ago. Geoff’s first novel, Escaping Reality, is a humorous thriller set in Northern England and Amsterdam. Hot Air followed as another thriller set mostly in Mallorca where Geoff was arrested twice gathering data for the book but was released without charge although his cameras were confiscated. Other fiction followed such as scifi: Alien Exit, historical fantasy Vengeance Island, scifi series ARIA trilogy, collections of shorts such as Incremental and more recently a series of scifi novellas, Flying Crooked. In between Geoff wrote papers on climatology and two slim books: Huddersfield’s Changing Climate and Chester’s Climate. He is now retired from teaching and living with his wife within tutoring distance of grandchildren in Manchester.

Most of the above fiction books feature vegetarian main characters but it wasn’t until the Flying Crooked series that the primary main character is a vegan. Geoff’s plots and characters occur to him while he’s cycling on rural roads. You can sometimes hear him singing opera while cycling until a plot idea rises.
